Prakash develops himself as a model farmer
Prakash Thapa is 27 years old resident of Kukhure village-8 Mahakali Village Development Committee. He has four family members including his parents, wife and son. The main occupation of his family is agriculture and livestock. Prakash stayed in city Kathmandu and works in marketing for few years. Later he is not satisfied with his job so decided to go back home and support family in agriculture.

About Diploma Course on Community Development Management

 

ShareandCareNepalisaregisteredorganizationworkingprimarilyfortheupliftment ofthemostneedypeopleinremoteandurbanareasofNepal.Overthepast23 years SCN has been involved in conducting various short term courses forits own community, partners, staff as well as international volunteers/students. While serving the communitiesas enabler and facilitator, we have learned many practical aspects of community development and management. There were requests from individuals and organizationsaswellaslocalchurchestoformalizeourshorttermtrainingprograms. In response to these requests we have designed a Diploma Course on Community DevelopmentManagement.Itisexpectedthatthecapacityofindividuals,organizations andChurcheswillbestrengthenedincommunitydevelopmentinitiatives.Wewouldalso like to encourage and inspire the process of adopting best development practices by all involved in community development.

Purpose of the course

 

The course is aimed at equipping the community development workers with adequate knowledgeandskillincommunitydevelopment.Thetheoreticalknowledgeandpractical experience gained by the participants will enhance their professional competence for effective implementation of the community development programs.

 

Duration of the Course

 

Thedurationofthetrainingwillbeforaperiodofoneyear.Theentiretrainingisdivided into three phases. In phase one participant will attend a residential course for a period of two and half months. In the second phase the participants will go back to their respective organizations who have sponsored them, for a period of 9.5 months. During which SCN would follow up with participants as they implement their learning in their projects. They also apply their learning gained during the residential. Their learning will be monitored and support will be offered to them through visits or other means. The thirdphaseofpostpracticumcoursewillbeforaperiodoftwoweeks.Duringthisphase theparticipantswillcomebacktothetraininginstituteandsharetheirfieldexperiences and learning’s. On successful completion of the course the participants will be awarded a diploma certificate.

 

Learning Methodologies

 

Various adult learning toolswill beusedto facilitatelearning. Theresidentiallearning would include lectures, group discussions, participants’ interaction with each other and assignments,experiencesharingfromexpertsanddesigningaproject.Theparticipants willbeencouragedtomakeuseoftheresourcematerial.Thefieldbasedlearningwould include opportunities to observe practical implementation of community development concepts.Thecommunitybasedresourcepersonswouldsharetheirpracticalexperiences. Forexperientiallearningtheparticipantswillbegivenfieldassignmentstoapplythenew knowledge in the communities.

Thoseprogramandmanagementstaffoforganizations,whoareworkingwithrural/urban communitiesandwhohavethedesiretofacilitatecommunitydevelopmentactivitiesbut lack the prospective, in-depth knowledge and skills will benefitfrom the program.

The community members will be involved at each stage and process of the training and learningexperience.Thefield intheprojectarea(pastandexisting)providespractice andrelevantexperiencetotheparticipants.Tobackuptheexperienceoftheparticipants in variousissues, theywillbe taken toobserveand interact with community atmodel projects run by other I/NGOs and government.

Language use for the course

 

ThecoursewillbeheldinNepalilanguagewithreferencematerialsinbothNepaliand

English language.

 

Resource person and faculty

 

Resourcepersonswillbeselectedfromamongthosethatareacademicallyqualifiedwith rich practical experience in community development.  There will be three categories of resourcepersonsi.e.1.field baseresourceperson,whohavethefirst handpractical knowledgeonthecommunities,2.internalresourceperson,whoareinvolvedinthedesign ofthecourseandalsohavethehandsontheskills,3.outsideexpertiseresourceperson, who have the knowledge based on the subject expertise nationally and internationally. Themixtureoftheprospectiveknowledge,skillsandfieldpracticabilitywouldenable the participants to get the conceptual knowledge, tested skills and application in real situations.

 

Entry Requirement

 

The Entry requirement for the course would be:

1.      Highersecondaryeducationpassedwithatleast2yearsofworkingexperiencesin community development.

2.      Age 20 - 35 yeas

3.      Prioritywillbegiventothecandidatesfromruralareas,ethnicandDalitcommunities.

4.      Sponsored by an organization, CBOs or a Church
