Transformation Stories

Prakash develops himself as a model farmer
Prakash Thapa is 27 years old resident of Kukhure village-8 Mahakali Village Development Committee. He has four family members including his parents, wife and son. The main occupation of his family is agriculture and livestock. Prakash stayed in city Kathmandu and works in marketing for few years. Later he is not satisfied with his job so decided to go back home and support family in agriculture.

Strategy 1:Project implementation through expansion & extension:

 

·         More coverage of unreached VDCs of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalachowk, Makwanpur, Nuwakot, Sindhuli and Ramechaap districts.

Strategy 2:Partnership with local NGOs & CBOs:

  • Select and partnership with 5 NGOs/CBOs per year.
  • Partners will be selected from the CDM participants’ action plan based on community needs and geographical location.
  • Project proposal will be developed jointly between SCN and partner NGOs/CBOs.
  • Share and Care will manage the project and ensure quality.

 

Strategy 3:Regularize training for transformation:

·         Continue to train 20 participants of Community Development Management course each year. A one year diploma course equipping participants with knowledge, skill and experience on community development.

·         Continue in-house trainings for the staffs to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

·         Develop and organize short-term training programs to meet the specific learning needs of the participants:

o        NGOs/CBOs development and management

o        Community Empowerment through SHG mobilization

o        Anti Human Trafficking through community empowerment

o        Social Mobilization for community development

o        Project development and management

o        Demand based tailor made trainings.

 

Strategy 4: Institutional development

  • Continuous  development of SCN and its partner’s capacity through the development of:
    • Shared Values:What we are committed for.
    • Structure: Accommodating the projects.
    • System: To bring about effectiveness, efficiency and relevance.
    • Style:Develop and harmonize leadership and management.
    • Staff:Based on the organizational and project need.
    • Skills:Continuously upgrade the proficiency level of professionals.

o                Strategy:Review and update based on the learning and need of the communities.

  • Succession Plan: Succession plan for the development of second generation leadership.
  • Long-Term Sustainability Strategy and plan:For the smooth continuity of the organization functioning.
  • Resource sharing: A platform for partners to shared resources and produce synergy.

 

Strategy 5:Promote the concept of "Open School for Communities"

A school with a difference having no boundaries, common purpose of learning, is owned and managed by the community and for the community. Where learning is participative and focuses on the potentialities, interest and desire of the learner. The focus is on application and relevance of learning to life circumstances.
