Vegetables changes her life

Mina Thapa, aged 35 years residence of Chhampi VDC, Ward no. 1, Lalitpur District. She is an active member of Salyantar self help women group. She has one son, one daughter and husband in her family. Her husband work in the office at city but the income is not enough to maintain household expenses. It is difficult for her to educate her children too. Past few years she has to take a loan from money lender in high rate of interest to manage the family problems.

She said that self confidence and self esteem was developed in her after attending and involving in different activities such as meeting, workshop, agriculture training, advocacy training, leadership development training, exposure visit which was organized by advocacy on women empowerment project of Share and Care Nepal. Thus she made a plan to initiate vegetables farming.

At the beginning, she has taken a loan of Rs.5000 from women group and started vegetables farming in her little land.  She has able to save Rs.15000/- within 3 months through vegetables. The income from vegetables encourages her to continue vegetable farming in her more land. Yearly she has earned more than Rs.60000/- from vegetables. Later on she has started poultry farming and earned Rs.30000/-. She said, "There is nothing impossible if we do hard work". Now she is very happy because she is able to educate her children and not to ask for money to money lenders. She has deposited her some money in women cooperative to expand her business and for her children further education.

Now, she is planning to do seasonal and off seasonal vegetable farming in her remaining land. She encourages, gives advice and suggestions to other women in her groups to initiate some small business. There is a high demand of organic vegetable in market so she is planning to do organic vegetable farming in future. She has made commitment to continue vegetables farming for her family well-being.
