What Work we Do

Basic Education

A little less than half of the population is still illiterate, and illiteracy among women is much higher than among men. One-third of school going age children are not in schools. Two-fifths of children who complete primary school discontinue their studies. The low performance of children is due to inadequate food intake. Thus the school drop out rate is high. The lack of child friendly teaching-learning environment further repulses children from available opportunities for schooling. Finally, tradition rooted discrimination against girls leads to a thinning out of girls in school participation as they advance through the grades.
