What Work we Do

Food Security

Food insecurity remains the principal cause of insecurity for the majority of the Nepalese people. High dependency on subsistence agriculture, very small land holding, inequality in land holdings, low-productivity in agriculture, use of traditional tools and lack of appropriate technology have contributed to add to the general food insecurity. Likewise, the lack of proper storage systems, ethnic and other social discriminatory factors are some of the principal reasons for food insecurity at the household level.

The nutritional situation of Nepal's children is grave. Almost half of the children under five are malnourished. The incidence of malnourishment is higher among rural and girl children. The National Macronutrient Survey shows that 81 percent of children below 48 months of age are anemic. About 30% of all children born in Nepal are under weight.
