Where We Work

PLHA and HIV Prevention Program, Makwanpur

This program is running in six Village Development Committees (VDCs) and one municipality in Makwanpur district: Basamadi, Manahari, Harnamadi, Hatiya and Gadhi alongwith bordering city of Birganj in Parsa district. These were chosen based on the relatively high number of IDUs and PLWHA identified living in these areas and the high level of stigma and discrimination toward PLWHA in their communities. The project will be strategically positioned to involve the whole community of the proposed VDCs, but will specifically target PLWHA, those who are most vulnerable, and affected families for care and support program.

This proposal has also been developed intending to respond to the biggest challenge i.e. to break the stigma pertaining to HIV and AIDS for which our strategy will include the need to change the attitude, increase awareness, enhance access to care and support in dealing with the plight of the infected. A growing problem was the need to help those living with HIV/AIDS as well as the orphans of those who have died from the disease. This will require developing an awareness campaign involving all the stakeholders, including children and adolescents, parents, business and civic leaders. The prevalence rate will likely grow as the population shift continues towards urbanization and because of the present conflict situation; the young and working age group of population (the most vulnerable group) are going to India in search of work, where they are forced to work under the environment of exploitation. And nearby bordering city of Birganj, the contraband drugs are easily smuggled from India.

Goal

Envisioning the community, free from drug abuse, HIV, AIDS and provide care services to the PLHAs and facilitate their rehabilitation process into the society.

  1. Providing care and support to the PLHA through the Day-Care-Centre.
  2. Provide income generation training to the PLHA.
  3. Reduce the risk of HIV infection among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) through the awareness program in the community.
  4. Reduce stigma and discrimination towards PLHAs, IDUs, FSWs in the community.
  5. Increase treatment and comprehensive care and support services to PLHA.
